LucasFilm has been sold to Disney for a sum of $4.05bn (£2.52dn) with the incentive of creating a brand new trilogy hitting our screens in 2015,2017 and 2019. All of this "hey big spenderrrrr" behaviour is splitting fans into a divide. What will this mean for the cinematic phenomenon???
A decade after George Lucas stated himself that Star Wars was finished on the big screen, the new trilogy will carry the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia beyond "Return Of The Jed"i, the third film released and the sixth in the saga. After that, Disney plans a new Star Wars film every two or three years. With the Co-Chairman of LucasFilm now reporting to the Magical Kingdom, and the Big G himself now onboard with Disney as the creative consultant, it's a wonder how production will run as this sets for hyperspace.
The real mystery is who will actually take the helm of the new trilogy itself? To name-drop a few worthy jedi-masters; the likes of Zack Synder, although he is currently directing the Superman reboot "Man of Steel", also with the look of becoming a trilogy. Another dark lord (horse) is Joss Whedon, being a favourite amongst fans to be director, is assisting with the writing of the sequel to Captain America, "Winter Soldier" and of course, he is controlling the reigns of a little known project...something along the lines of "Avengers 2"...I think.
With the news of this mega-deal coming into effect, it can go one or two ways; 1) being that the force is telling me that the new trilogy will some-what dilute the entire franchise...immensely! And 2) being that it could actually prove to be pretty damn good and may keep to the actual premise of the narrative. You never know, Princess Leia may not be reffered to as one of the new Disney Princesses. But if this whole hyped up excuse for an extended franchise doesn't work, the only person that will be Goofy will be Lucas himself. Vader Out.
